Write down practical requirements before choosing how many cities to visit. “Senior friendly” does not describe a full day. Ask about hotel steps, vehicle access, continuous walking and places to rest.
Confirm access for the actual room
Check the distance from the vehicle stop, steps, lift access to the booked floor, bathroom layout and routes after dark. Request confirmation of a low floor, step-free access or adjacent rooms where needed. Courtyard character and lake views are preferences; they do not establish convenient access.
One base each in Dali and Lijiang is an option to discuss for fewer packing days. Allocate nights around arrival and departure times. Compare areas in the Dali and Lijiang accommodation guide.
Turn “slower” into practical instructions
- Describe comfortable walking periods and preferences about steps and slopes.
- Explain usual waking, meal and midday-rest times.
- Plan transport and check-in first on a transfer day.
- Agree who accompanies someone taking a break, where to meet and whether separate transfers cost extra.
These conditions need checking against each departure. See the two-base Dali–Lijiang planning guide for pacing ideas.
Discuss high-altitude sections separately
Age alone cannot decide suitability. If health is a concern, discuss the proposed itinerary with your doctor. CDC guidance stresses acclimatisation and individual circumstances; this guide does not provide medical clearance.
Ask whether Shangri-La or a mountain visit is a shared priority, then check transport, nights, visiting areas and alternatives. Having a vehicle or oxygen advertised does not establish that an itinerary is safe for an individual.
Compare formats using the same requirements
For a small-group trip, check fixed meeting times and whether anyone may skip an activity. For private travel, confirm the actual flexibility and associated costs. Compare small-group and private travel and check the quotation scope.
Request a Yunnan plan with parents using dates, party size, arrival cities, access requirements, walking preferences and two priorities. Discuss medical details with your clinician; give the travel team the practical service requirements.
