Choose a route that can actually be submitted
Decide whether you want Lhasa alone or a journey onwards towards Shigatse and Everest. Ask the receiving agency to check each proposed stop before treating the outline as confirmed. With limited time, a single Lhasa hotel base leaves more room for rest and changes. Request an itinerary showing arrival arrangements, overnight towns, the receiving travel company and guiding language. It should be possible to match the permission being requested to the journey being sold.
Get an individual document list and sequence
Ask for the requirements relevant to your status, including name spelling, document validity, evidence of China entry status and any supporting material. Have the agency explain submission, possible additional requests, the decision and how the necessary documents reach you before boarding. Do not rely on a universal processing-day promise. Verify the receiving company and purpose before sharing passport copies through its formal channel. Payment, document submission and approval are separate milestones, each needing a clear status.
Check additional requirements for border routes
If a proposed stop involves a border management area, request a separate list of any necessary documents. The 2026 National Immigration Administration announcement distinguishes the mainland-ID online process from on-site channels for foreigners and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents. It does not approve a particular itinerary or replace Tibet permission. A journey via Nepal needs its own cross-border document check; do not treat it as interchangeable with arrival on a domestic flight.
Match payment terms to what remains uncertain
Read the terms for an unsuccessful application, route changes, transport disruption and your own cancellation before making commitments. Ask which costs have already been incurred and which are refundable. Coordinate your first Tibet-bound journey with the agency’s document-delivery plan and save contact details offline. This approach suits travellers willing to settle a route ahead of time. If spontaneous detours are essential, establish whether that preference fits the approved arrangements before buying an inflexible package.
