Read the station name before choosing the first hotel

The Chaozhou government’s explanation of station naming places Chaoshan Station in Shaxi and distinguishes it from Chaozhou Station. Do not treat Chaoshan, Chaozhou and Shantou as interchangeable drop-off locations. Save the actual arrival station, time and meeting arrangement, then map the complete transfer to your candidate hotel. Available trains depend on where you start and the date. This outline does not assume that a particular direct service will always be available.

Allocate four usable days to two cities

With four full sightseeing days, give the first two to Chaozhou and the next two to Shantou, reversing the order if your transport makes that more practical. Aim for one hotel move so each city has an evening and a morning. A late arrival should mean check-in and dinner, not a full first sightseeing day. With only three days, remove the final flexible city day rather than compressing two old-town visits and a luggage transfer into one.

Use Chaozhou’s days to understand one place

Spend the first day orientating yourself around Paifang Street and the western riverfront; use the second for a more focused history or tea interest. The official old-city introduction explains the relationship between the bridge, gate and street. Check bridge admission, individual buildings and booked experiences separately. Walking freely along a street does not mean every interior is open without arrangements. A hotel at the old-town edge makes a midday rest and an evening meal easier to incorporate.

Make the intercity move follow the bags

Confirm check-in arrangements at the second hotel. If you check out in the morning but arrive before the next room is ready, settle storage in advance. A transfer quotation should include passenger numbers, suitcase sizes and exact pickup and drop-off points. Keep one light activity near the first hotel, collect the bags and then move. Avoid sightseeing in the next city before returning for luggage. Adding a stop changes parking, waiting and arrival expectations and should be agreed explicitly.

Separate Shantou’s old port from a flexible second day

Use one day around Small Park and streets such as Haiping Road to consider the arcaded buildings and trading-port setting. The tourism bureau’s cultural route supplies background, although opening information in an older article needs refreshing. Keep the other day for food, crafts or a cultural venue whose current access you have checked. A regional trip does not require another distant city simply to complete a map. Avoid remote activities during the final half-day before departure.

Check the final rail connection as its own task

Use official 12306 channels to verify dates, stations, services and the identification needed, and carry the original document used for booking. Allow separately for leaving the hotel, city traffic, station entry and waiting. Do not calculate the last possible departure from a quoted fastest drive. Keep offline records of the order and meeting point. If the train connects with an international flight, list the airport stage separately; expected train punctuality cannot replace a buffer across the whole journey.

Questions before you go

Is a hotel beside Chaoshan Station best for sightseeing?

Compare it with your meals and activities; a transport hub may still require daily city transfers.

Can I include Nan’ao Island?

Add a full day or replace one Shantou city day, checking the road journey and weather separately.
